Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Adapter
Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Adapter : I recently bought an XBox 360 wireless control adapter on eBay. It seems the only way to buy an official Microsoft adapter is via an official retailer and I couldn’t find any on eBay. The adapter I ended up purchasing was, and I knew it was, a cheap(ish) Chinese knock-off. I had read around enough to know that it should work, but hadn’t realised how varied people’s experiences had been.
The adapter I bought was from the eBay store Console Mate (a popular Australian, NSW, power seller) and was listed as “WIRELESS GAMING RECEIVER – Xbox 360 Controller on PC”. the store was easy to deal with and the device arrived in under a couple of days via express post.
A genuine wireless adapter will have “Microsoft” written on the top of the adapter itself. These knock-offs (at least mine) say only “XBox 360″ with no branding, copyright, etc. Otherwise, they look like the real deal.
My issues began when trying to install the adapter in an install of Windows 7 64-bit. I tried using the software bundled with the device, but had the same experience with the official software (which I ended up getting to work). Using the driver on the CD that came with the adapter, I kept getting the error message:
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. PC Wireless Gaming Receiver. The system cannot find the file specified.
I then turned to the official drivers. After installing the official Microsoft software (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows) I then plugged the device into a USB port. My install of Windows 7 64-bit couldn’t install the device; ultimately, the adapter always ended up being listed as “Unknown Device”.
Googling will bring up a few solutions for this issue, but I found only one works. These are the steps I took to install the drivers for the device:
- Install the official software: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows
- Start -> Search for “Device Manager” -> Open it
- Find the “Unknown Device” -> right click -> properties
- Driver -> Update driver -> Browse my computer -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
- Double click “All devices” -> Search for “Microsoft” in the left pane and select it -> Search for “XBox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1xxx”
- Choose “Next” and complete the install
The “Unknown Device” should then disappear from the devices list. I was then able to sync my existing wireless XBox 360 controller (which came with my XBox 360 console) with the adapter by pressing the large “X” button on the controller to wake it (it should start blinking), then pressing the button on the adapter (its light should start blinking), then pressing the receiver sync button on the controller (a small button in between the left shoulder button and the central top port of the controller). After a few seconds, the controller and adapter lights stopped blinking, leaving the top left light of the controller lit (the Player 1 state). Viola! Done.

Xbox Live Vision
Before you can use your camera with
your Xbox 360 system, make sure
you’ve signed in to Xbox LIVE to
automatically receive the latest Xbox
LIVE update. For more information
about connecting to Xbox LIVE, see
your Xbox 360 Setup manual
(Volume 1).
To connect to an Xbox 360 console:
1 Turn on your Xbox 360 console
with no disc in the tray. When the
Xbox Dashboard appears, connect
the camera cable to one of the
console’s USB ports. If possible,
use a rear port for the camera so
that the front ports are left
available for wired controllers and
media devices. The Ring of Light
on the camera will blink while the
camera is being recognised by the
system.
2 Position the camera on a stable
base, pointed towards you or what
you want to shoot. The Ring of
Light on the camera will glow
when actively shooting video.
3 For audio, connect the Xbox 360
Headset according to the
instructions in your Xbox 360Headset manual.

To connect to a PC:
1 Turn on your PC and connect the
camera cable to an available USB
2.0 (Hi-Speed) port. Microsoft®
Windows® XP will display the

CLE ANING YOUR CAMERA
Clean only with a dry or slightly
damp cloth. Using cleaning solutions
or attempting to clean connectors
may damage your camera. For the
lens, use only soft, dry, lint-free cloth
or lens paper.
TROUBLESH OOTING
If you encounter problems, try the
possible solutions provided below.
No Picture
Make sure the camera cable
connector is connected securely to a
controller port on your console.
Blurry or Poor Video Quality
• Make sure the focus is adjusted
on the camera lens. In general,
turning the lens clockwise moves
the focal point farther out and
turning it counterclockwise moves
the focal point closer in.
• Clean the camera lens if it
becomes dirty, being careful to
avoid scratching the lens surface.
• Video quality can be improved by
shooting in a well-lit area.
• Position the camera in a wellventilated
location near roomtemperature.
• Do not point the camera directly
at a bright light or window.
No L ight Ring I ndication
The light ring only illuminates when
the camera is actively shooting video
or capturing a still picture.

Xbox Live Compatible Routers
Xbox Live Compatible Routers Problem : When connecting your Xbox to your Xbox Live account, you get a message about NAT being “Strict” or “Moderate”, and your multi-player gaming is affected.
Explanation: Your Xbox is attempting to implement a special type of connection to the Internet, but your router is standing in the way. Your router uses something called “Network Address Translation” (NAT) to give your Xbox access to the Internet, but NAT does not allow incoming connections by default. Your Xbox may recognize this problem and attempt to “trick” your router into allowing incoming connections, but this action may fail, depending on the configuration of the router. The degree to which it fails is denoted by one of three designations:
Open NAT – Completely compatible with Xbox Live.
Moderate NAT – Somewhat compatible with Xbox Live. Multi-player games can be played with others who have either Open or Moderate NAT, but not Strict NAT.
Strict NAT – Highly incompatible and almost unusable for multi-player games. Multi-player games only possible when everyone else has an Open NAT connection.
Solution: Change the configuration of your router, if possible, so that either the “UPnP” function is enabled or something called “Cone” or “Full Cone” NAT is enabled. If your router allows none of these options, then it’s time to consider purchasing a different router.
To see if your hardware and its internal software (referred to as "firmware") are compatible with Xbox LIVE, choose your hardware manufacturer from the list below.
All of the network hardware in the following lists works with multiple Xbox 360 consoles connected at the same time. If you get a NAT error or cannot connect to Xbox LIVE, try using our Xbox LIVE Connect Solution.
